Hi guys, Josh Bowmar from Bowmar Bowhunting here!

Today, I am going to talk about the strategies that killed Hollywood. Hollywood wasn’t just any deer. He was an old, mature five to seven year-old buck. These deer are like a whole other species of deer – they do not tolerate anything.

Tip 1: Hang stands in the rain

This tip seems a little crazy, but when you are hunting an old, mature buck like Hollywood, you have to be very careful about when you hang your stands. The rain washes away all of our scent.

Tip 2: Find where your deer are early season

We kept getting pictures of Hollywood in the same food plot, but I wanted to see where he was coming from. I set up cameras all over the farm, and found out that he was using this old logging road as a funnel into the food plot. A lot of deer travel on this road. I got him on camera on this trail consistently. I knew we were close to his bedding area.

Tip 3: Hang stands so you can hunt both winds

Hollywood was showing up with a north and a south wind – it didn’t really matter. We wanted to get him killed the first week, so we had to make sure we had stands hung for whichever wind. So, that is exactly what we did. If you refer back to the picture above, we hung stands where the two ‘x’s’ are.
